Increasing Motor Planning through Drama  (Sp.Ed. 3-4)

Objective:     improve motor planning and processing skills, increase social awareness and interaction between students.

Materials needed:  only the teacher

Procedure:     Seat the children in a circle so they can easily see each other, and have room to stand.  Instruct the students to say their mane as they go around the circle so everyone becomes familiar with students names.  Introduce and demonstrate a rhythm of knee slapping2x, hand clapping 2x and finger snapping 2x.  Practice the rhythm, then add saying names to the finger snapping, 1st your own and then someone else in the circle.  The names are said in rhythm with the finger snapping.  Have the students repeat this in standing (adding the challenge of balance).

Making an effort to increase student learning by integrating  drama will help children gain meaningful context to their lives.
