8TH GRADE

 

ACTIVITY 1

Human Relations Skills:

Self-Awareness Activity #1: What’s In a Name?

Objectives: Student will be able to:

  1. Name interests and personality traits that are unique to self.
  2. Share these characteristics of self with others in the class
  3. Participate in the construction of a “What’s in our names?” collage.

 

Students create a nameplate, using bubble letters, and list personality traits that start with each letter of his/her name. Upon completion students will introduce themselves to their classmates, sharing the nameplate and their traits using the creative art form of their choice. (Song, dance, pantomime etc.)

 

ACTIVITY 2

 

Multicultural Awareness:

Creative Dance Activity #2: What is the relationship between music and movement in different cultures?

Objectives: Student will be able to:

  1. Create, perform and respond to choreographic studies inspired by world music.
  2. Using improvisation and videotape as choreographic tools, students will learn the art of storytelling through dance of Jamaican and African American Cultures as taught be a professional dance artist.
